Member Biography

The Presiding Officer of the Tobago House of Assembly, Ms. Abby Tinica Taylor, hails from the scenic village of Mary’s Hill, Plymouth Road, Tobago. As a devout member of the Full Gospel religion since birth (April 12th 1985), one of her life’s mantra is “I will take the oath/ affirmation and will swear by the Almighty God”, which serves as her daily avowal. Being a mother of three and divorcee, has instilled in her the significance of selflessness which has assisted her immensely in navigating one of the most powerful worlds: motherhood. She attended the Scarborough Secondary School from 19 97-2002 and her insatiable passion for history, cultures lost and stories untold led to the attainment of a Bachelor of Arts in History from Andrews University in 2012. Achieving a Masters of Arts in Carnival Studies in 2013 (Thesis: The Marginalization of Women in Calypso 1940-1970) unlocked a hunger for advocacy for women, especially single mothers, and Special Needs individuals and groups. The aforementioned initiated the annual International Women’s Day Debate and Christmas at the House for children with Special Needs and in homes. At Leeds’ University in 2017, her post-graduate work examined the: “Commercialization of Carnival: Muddern Mud”. Athleticism also piqued Ms.Taylor’s interest to which, she excelled effortlessly in field events and netball. From a humble clerk in the THA in 2006 to Presiding Officer at Assembly Legislature in December 2021, ingrained and etched the lifelong mantra that perseverance prevails.
