Zorisha Amena Hackett – Area Representative | Bethesda / Les Coteaux
Zorisha Amena Hackett is the Area Representative for Bethesda/Les Coteaux and a respected educator, linguist, and advocate. Known for her principled leadership and commanding presence, she represents a modern, people-centred approach to governance grounded in integrity, service, and accountability.
An award-winning graduate of the University of the West Indies, Ms. Hackett is the founder of the Tobago English Academy and has made significant contributions to educational leadership and policy development. During her tenure as Secretary of the Division of Education, Research and Technology in the Tobago House of Assembly, she played a central role in advancing policy reform, strengthening institutional leadership, and elevating the voices of educators within the system.
Her leadership record is marked by fairness, opportunity, and a firm commitment to justice. She has worked closely with families, educators, and community stakeholders to drive inclusive development and deliver meaningful improvements across Bethesda and Les Coteaux.
The holder of postgraduate qualifications in Education and Linguistics, as well as a Master of Science in Political Science, Ms. Hackett is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Strategic Leadership and Innovation. A mother of two daughters, she brings both professional expertise and lived experience to her public service, remaining deeply committed to empowering people and strengthening communities.
Zorisha Amena Hackett grew up in Bethesda Trace, Plymouth, and attended Sunbeam Kindergarden, before moving to Plymouth Anglican Primary School where she excelled at both sport and academics. She then attended Bishop’s High School where she achieved full certificates at both Ordinary and Advanced Levels thrusting her into the field of education.
She began her tenure as an English Teacher attached to Goodwood High School before embarking on study leave to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature with Education at the University of the West Indies, where she graduated with honors. She was also the recipient of the prestigious departmental prize for Best Linguistic Research from the Faculty of Humanities and Education.
Zorisha is also the holder of several postgraduate diplomas in the fields of Education, Linguistics and Political Science and is currently pursuing her MSc. in Strategic Leadership and Innovation. Ms. Hackett resumed teaching at Scarborough Secondary School for nine (9) years before moving on to establish the Tobago English Academy.
Her keen sense of activism is evident, as she has consistently used her voice to ventilate many social ills, inclusive of the poor treatment of contract teachers by the Division of Education. Ms. Hackett’s close interaction and involvement with her electoral district have enabled her to foster meaningful relationships with residents who have pushed her to become more actively involved in governance.
Her passion, courage, and determination are the attributes that have propelled her to excel in everything she sets out to do. She has now made it her life’s mission to empower residents to embark on the transformation of a district bountifully blessed with cultural and historical wealth as well as sporting and academic prowess yet plagued by many deficiencies. It is this fighting spirit and earnest love for her community that enabled her to become the Area Representative of Plymouth/Golden Lane and now the Area Representative of Bethesda/Les Coteaux. Assemblyman Hackett currently serves as Secretary of Education, Research, and Technology in the Tobago House of Assembly.
